About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior SMP Planner to join their project team on a 3–5 month contract, working on a 2:1 FIFO roster.
This is an immediate requirement for an experienced planner with a strong background in Structural, Mechanical & Piping (SMP) projects, construction and/or shutdown environments.
Working closely with the Project and Construction teams, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining and monitoring project schedules, ensuring work scopes are effectively planned, sequenced and delivered safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and manage detailed project schedules using Primavera P6
- Plan and schedule SMP construction, maintenance and shutdown activities
- Develop baseline schedules, detailed work programs and lookahead schedules
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Engineers and Supervisors to establish achievable sequences and durations
- Monitor actual progress against baseline schedules and identify variances
- Undertake critical path analysis and identify potential schedule risks and delays
- Develop recovery and mitigation strategies where required
- Provide accurate progress reporting and schedule updates to project leadership
- Review productivity, resource requirements and project performance
- Coordinate planning requirements across Structural, Mechanical and Piping work scopes
- Participate in planning and progress meetings with internal and client stakeholders
- Identify constraints, interfaces and opportunities that may impact project delivery
- Ensure planning outputs align with project milestones, priorities and delivery requirements
- Support continuous improvement of planning processes, systems and reporting
You will be an experienced Senior Planner / SMP Planner with a proven track record working across major construction, resources, maintenance or shutdown projects.
To be successful, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience in SMP planning and scheduling
- Advanced Primavera P6 experience – essential
- Experience working across major mining, resources, construction or shutdown projects
- Strong understanding of SMP construction methodologies and sequencing
- Proven ability to develop and manage complex project schedules
- Strong understanding of critical path, progress measurement and schedule analysis
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- Ability to work autonomously and effectively within a fast-paced project environment
- Strong attention to detail and commercial awareness
- Previous FIFO/site-based experience
- Australian working rights
